They are the medium of intelligent human communication, the means of cultural development, the very essence of civilisation ! They are also important sources for the history of mankind. The study of Indo-European languages has revealed the history of the migrations of the Indo-European peoples over wide-spread areas in Europe and Asia. The study of Romany, the language of the Gypsies, solved a centuries-old puzzle by conclusively proving their Indian origin! The Basque language, not being related to any other European language, indicates that the Basque people could be the original inhabitants of Europe! ......and so on and so forth !!!
